All About Hypnosis !

Hypnosis is a tool, that helps you relax deeply and access the subconscious part of your mind.

The subconscious mind is the most powerful part of your mind which decides how you should behave and what to do when to do. All experiences of one’s existence is stored in the subconscious mind. Hypnosis is tool, where the client is made to relax and this part of the mind is accessed and the root of the problem is dealt with.

The Sub-Conscious stores each and every minute sensation and experience as mental equations. It records all the triggers and cues that it receives from all the 5-sense organs (MU-Message Units).

These Equations control and decide your actions. Most of your behavior and decisions are on an ‘Auto-Pilot’. You act and think in patterns. These patterns are put together by your subconscious, based on your experiences and understanding of these experiences. Example : when you are learning how to drive, you seem to be in full concentration and focus. You pay attention to the brake, accelerator, clutch, look in the mirrors, remember the rules of the road and then drive. Later, you drive without thinking much, you even drive while you are talking to someone, listening to music etc. How is it that, the same actions you were performing with some difficulty before, now you are performing without paying attention? Because, in the learning stages, your subconscious is taking in information and forming a map/pattern of behavior. Later, it accesses the cues and triggers outside and replicates the pattern of driving. Hence you are able to drive without much effort and awareness.

This simple mechanism holds true for all actions in our life…. Our understanding of relationships, developing skills, phobias, fears, etc. the more you practice, the better you get at a skill. This is because, the greater number of times that particular subconscious pattern is getting activated, the stronger and more precise it becomes. With each added experience, the equation or pattern gets more cues and becomes a much stronger; like how, you make round rotis with practice, like how a policeman investigates a crime (thinking patterns), like how you seem to get better at driving, etc.

A Hypnotherapist is a trained professional, who with skill accesses this part of your mind relevant for your problem. through techniques of hypnotherapy, they “reset/reframe” the faulty subconscious equation. This in turn reflects as corrected behavior and understanding.

This is used in a wide range of issues regarding habit control (addiction, OCD, OCE, Schizophrenia, Hallucinations, nail-biting , eating disorders, BPD, etc), Phobias, fears, Dealing with personal empowerment blocks like self-esteem, stage fear, confidence, performance. It is also used to get insight into dynamics and reality of your intimate, inter-personal, social and other relationships.

Hypnosis, is a Modality or a tool to work with the Subconscious. It is often used as an important and integral part of Quantum Leap. Quantum Leap by subconscious Programming, is where we use the tool of Hypnotherapy as a means of Self-Hypnosis and create the required vibrational transformation. This is called the Quantum Leap, where the change happens and the results are seen almost overnight!

It is Gentle stage of relaxation , where the Brain waves are of lower frequency .

Contrary to popular belief, hypnosis is not a state of deep sleep. It does involve the induction of a trance-like condition, but when in it, the patient is actually in an enhanced state of awareness. As such, hypnotherapy is a kind of psychotherapy…hypnotherapy aims to re-program patterns of behavior within the mind, enabling irrational fears, phobias, negative thoughts and suppressed emotions to be overcome. As the body is released from conscious control during the relaxed trance-like state of hypnosis, breathing becomes slower and deeper, the pulse rate drops and the metabolic rate falls. Similar changes along nervous pathways and hormonal channels enable the sensation of pain to become less acute, and the awareness of unpleasant symptoms, such as nausea or indigestion, to be alleviated.

Hypnosis is thought to work by altering our state of consciousness in such a way that the analytical left-hand side of the brain is turned off, while the non-analytical right-hand side is made more alert. The conscious control of the mind is inhibited, and the subconscious mind awoken. Since the subconscious mind is a deeper-seated, more instinctive force than the conscious mind, this is the part which has to change for the patient’s behavior and physical state to alter. For example, a patient who consciously wants to overcome their fear of spiders may try everything they consciously can to do it, but will still fail as long as their subconscious mind retains this terror and prevents the patient from succeeding. Progress can only be made be reprogramming the subconscious so that deep-seated instincts and beliefs are abolished or altered.

Hypnosis Background

The earliest known use of hypnosis for healing is by the Shamans or tribal Medicine Men, even though the term ‘hypnosis’ was not known then. Present day hypnotherapy can be traced back to Dr Franz Anton Mesmer, an 18th century Austrian physician. He believed that many objects contained a ‘cosmic fluid’ with healing powers, which could be transferred to human body to cure diseases.

Initially he used magnets for the healing, but later considered his own body as the source of this healing force, which he called ‘animal magnetism’.Though there was no evidence to support his theory, he treated thousands of patients using this method, which came to be known as ‘mesmerism’.

It was James Braid, a British Surgeon, who coined the word ‘hypnosis’ (from the word Greek ‘hypnos’ meaning ‘sleep’) in 1843 to describe a sleep-like state exhibited by many of his patients. Several schools in the West developed hypnosis for treatment and the method gained popularity.

Sigmund Freud, the well-known Psychiatrist also used hypnosis in his early days of practice, but later discarded it for psychotherapy. With the fast development of psychiatry in the first half of the 20th century, hypnotherapy suffered a decline in popularity.

However a revival occurred in the 1950’s, mainly due to the efforts of two American doctors, Dr. Milton Erickson and Dr. John Kappas, who contributed significantly to shape the present day hypnotherapy. The Hypnosis Motivation Institute, established by John Kappas in 1969, was the first authentic school of hypnotherapy in the USA.

There are two types of hypnosis : Self – Hypnosis & Hetero-Hypnosis.

Self -Hypnosis, is a method, of getting yourself into a deep relaxed state, where you plant seeds and affirmations for change and transformation. Hetero-Hypnosis is where, the other person (therapist) is putting you in the trance stage and giving appropriate suggestions.

MYTHS

Q1 . Will I Loose Control in the session? Will I Be controlled by the Therapist?

Answer : No! let me answer this in a simple way…. let us suppose you have a Swiss-Bank account with lots of money, and are not wanting to share it with me. So I CANNOT Hypnotize you, to force you, to reveal the account number and Password! So, in simple words….you CANNOT be forced to reveal any information or details, that you don’t want to.

There is no Loosing control, you will just be in a deeply relaxed stage, where although I can suggest many things, you will have full control on what suggestion you choose to follow.

Q2: It is Trick! It is not true …..

Answer : It is beautiful tool to get clarity and understand how your mind works and responds. it is Science. it is proved by Brain-Imaging, Neuro-programming and other sophisticated scientific empirical methods. It is miraculously powerful and simple. You wouldn’t know unless you experience it!

Q3. Can I be Hypnotized Against my will?

Answer : No. Hypnosis cannot be done against your will. It is a Clinical -Therapy Tool.

Q4: Can I be Hypnotized to harm Myself or harm others?

Answer: The Mind has an in-built mechanism where it seeks to safeguard itself and act justly. This is well-proved in many experiments with babies, where it is said, that we have an inborn sense of right and wrong (justice). Because of this inbuilt mechanism, any suggestion regarding self-harm or harming others is instantly rejected by the mind. You CANNOT be forced to harm yourself or others, unless you are mentally sick and had wanted to do it.

Q5. What will happen if I am left like that only in the state of trance? what if I cannot come back?!

Answer : If you are “left” in between a session in a state of hypnosis, you will simply go into a state of deep sleep! and wake-up after a good sleep.
